A Freak Accident
Days after Carol and Sal Caneriato celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary, Carol fell down her basement stairs, landing on her face. She broke many facial bones, cracked her skull, broke both wrists, and several ribs. Upon returning home from the four-week hospital stay, Giants of Generosity provided a stair lift, through Handi-Lift Inc. of Carlstadt, NJ and also supplied a wheel chair.

Purple Heart Vets
Purple Heart Veterans Bruce Boice and Bob Lord along with Julia Torres, who is also a veteran, joined forces to help make this wheelchair gift to the Adler Aphasia Center of Maywood, NJ possible. The Adler Aphasia Center is for people suffering with aphasia that robs one of the ability to communicate, cutting them off from their family, friends, health care providers, and everyday life.
Friedreich’s Ataxia Disease
19-year-old Raquel from Clifton, suffers from Friedreich’s Ataxia, which is a debilitating degenerative neuro-muscular disorder. Giants of Generosity in partnership with Special Child Health Services created a new door opening and installed a wheelchair accessible door that was needed to provide egress to a wheelchair ramp. She now has easier access to the outside world.
Bariatric Hospital Bed
Angela injured her ankle while being evacuated during Hurricane Sandy. After being poorly handled in a rehab facility, she developed a very large pressure ulcer on the backside of her hip. After numerous attempts, she was unable to acquire the proper hospital bed from Medicare. Giants of Generosity negotiated a reduced price on a bariatric hospital bed and had it delivered, and Angela is now able to roll off the wound, allowing it to heal.
Homeless after Apartment Fire
Alexis had been living on park benches and in shelters for over a year, after her apartment building burned down. The Center for Food Action helped her find an apartment. She then called Giants of Generosity, who assisted her with food and clothing, until she could move-in and receive a donated bed from Westwood Sleep Centers.
Wheelchair and Voice Computer
A misdiagnosis of Lymes disease left Peter semi-paralyzed. He recently fell out of his broken wheelchair and got 47 stitches around his eye. Giants of Generosity provided a new electric wheelchair, and a voice activated computer.
Elevator for Dialysis Patient
While Conrado awaits a kidney transplant, it was determined that an exterior elevator would be needed to help him get out of his home to his dialysis treatments. We were deeply moved when James Boydston of Handi-Lift, Inc. in Carlstadt, NJ donated and installed a $14,000 elevator. Labor was provided by G & L and Sons and Giants of Generosity.
Devastating Five-alarm Fire
A five-alarm fire destroyed a 4-story apartment complex in Edgewater, NJ. It was home to more than 500 families. Giants of Generosity immediately contacted local officials in Edgewater to offer support and assisted two of the families with pregnant moms. Monies were raised to purchase new furniture and baby supplies.
Clinical Trial for Cancer Patient
Brian was diagnosed with a brain tumor and suffered a stroke. After three brain surgeries, he was accepted into Dr. John S. Yu’s potentially life-saving clinical trial at Cedars Sinai – Los Angeles where patients receive a cutting-edge, cancer vaccine called ICT-107. Giants of Generosity helped facilitate Brian’s five trips to the clinical trial that has helped extend his life.
Hurricane Sandy Relief
$446,000 was raised with the aid of grants from the Robin Hood Foundation, The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, KidCare, and private donations to help with gutting, mucking, and mold remediation of 400 family homes and businesses in the NY Rockaways. Giants of Generosity was designated as the depository for funds during the relief efforts, and were given the mandate to screen requests for relief before distributing nearly half a million dollars.
